Around Everton

Latest News

Watt has Murray delivered since 2009:
• Over $20 million in new facilities and funding for every local school;
• Better health services at the Prince Charles Hospital and the Royal Brisbane Hospital;
• Over $90 million to slash congestion at major intersections at Everton Park, Enoggera and Albany Creek;
• Tougher penalties for hoon drivers and other criminals;
• More than $5 million in grants for local seniors, and other community groups;
• Cost of living reductions, such as by scrapping the ambulance levy from power bills; and
• More frequent bus and train services for our area.

Watt are Murray's priorities if he's re-elected:
• Stage 2 of the Samford Rd and Wardell St intersection upgrade - starts this year;
• Upgrade to Stafford Rd and South Pine Rd intersection;
• Finish duplicating rail line to Ferny Grove train station - by midyear;
• More bus and train services for our area;
• Opening the new Children's Emergency Department at Chermside's Prince Charles Hospital - by midyear;
• Continue to invest in our local schools to deliver great education to our children; and
• Tackling cost of living pressures by freezing registration fees for all vehicles for three years.

I want to continue fighting for the people of Everton, and with your support on Election Day we can ensure our community remains a great place to live.

State Government to reduce Mitchelton building heights
The State Government has committed to forcing Council to reduce proposed building heights in its Mitchelton Neighbourhood Plan. We don't need 10 storey towers in our suburb. Read my full media release here.

Old Northern Road receives much needed resurfacing
Great news - Old Northern Road will be resurfaced! The road condition has been a big source of complaints, so I'm stoked the Government has agreed to spend $3M resurfacing it this financial year. Read the full press release here.

Fighting for more northwest bus services
I am calling on Everton residents to join my fight for better bus services to help cut traffic congestion. I recently ran an online petition for more buses in Albany Creek and Eatons Hill and gathered hundreds of signatures.

I encourage you to help me continue the fight to see more buses delivered across Everton. Download a copy of my petition here, and call for Translink to provide more bus services to your area, especially in off-peak times.

Final Samford-Wardell Upgrade will cut travel times and rat running
I am pleased to announce that after continued advocacy and community consultation, the State Government has released its final design for the crucial Samford Rd-Wardell St intersection upgrade at Enoggera.

The final design gets the balance right between cutting travel time in the northwest, and will reduce rat running in local streets as well as protecting the amenity of the local area.

Read more on the key changes here. You can also have your say on the preferred planning layout and follow the progress of the project at the website below.

$45.6m Children's Emergency Department at TPCH to open in 2012
Within months, Northside families will benefit from emergency hospital care closer to home.

From midyear, a specialised Children's Emergency Department at Chermside's Prince Charles Hospital will be providing excellent care for Northside kids and their families.

There is now a prototype of a patient room available (see photo) and it was great to see the rooms would be spacious, bright and are furnished with a daybed, ensuite and storage area, providing parents and carers with a comfortable place to stay overnight if needed.

Road upgrades
The fight to improve roads and transport in the northwest had taken another big step forward. I have convinced the Government to fund two more important road upgrades for our area.

Sections of Eatons Crossing Road in Eatons Hill, and the intersection of South Pine Road, Albany Creek Road and Flamingo Drive at Albany Creek, will be upgraded to improve safety for motorists.

Report Card
Since I was elected in 2009 I have been working hard to fight congestion, improve school facilities, protect our community and meet growing health needs. Hear what some locals have to say about what has been achieved.

Stafford Road/South Pine Road intersection
You know that improving traffic and public transport is my number one priority.

My campaign to fix the Stafford Rd/South Pine Rd intersection has taken a big step forward, with the State Government seeking feedback on proposed designs to fix the intersection.

Landmark plan for Education Trust
The Premier has announced the creation of a landmark new Education Trust that will fuel the education of the next generation of Queenslanders. From Mines to Minds: A proposal to establish a Queensland Education Trust proposes the establishment of a multi-billion dollar Queensland Education Trust using 50% of future LNG royalties.
